Last week, Hyundai posted a video showing their Genesis racing versus an arrow. They went out to some old runway, gave the Genesis a running start so that it was up to speed at the moment the arrow was loosed (I think that’s the verb,) and then used super-slo-mo cameras to show the car beat the arrow to its’ target. It was pretty cool, but lots of cars can accomplish this feat, so it seemed a bit flat, at least to me. The expression is faster than a speeding bullet, after all.

Then two days ago, Mercedes posted a video that was crazy similar with a bit of a twist. Mercedes went out to a similar runway, gave their car a similar running start and then chased a golf ball as it was driven down the runway by a pro golfer. The driver of the Mercedes raced under the ball and then slowed to catch it in the backseat of his moving car. It was definitely cooler, but still, the general idea had been done a week before.

Well today I just came across a new video from BMW, and while the concept for this one is close, it trumps the races on the runways of the two prior videos. In this video, BMW sets up their M5 to actually BE a speeding bullet. Starting out in a long tube, it gets fired out onto the Salt Flats and then fired through some really beautiful looking obstacles. The water balloons look amazing, and the video really is more of a piece of art than a cool trick.

All in all, these three videos coming out essentially within a week of each other is a real piece of evidence for those that believe in a collective unconscious.

awesome way to gauge interest in the Genesis coupe! this has to be the most dramatic Hyundai commercial i've seen, much better than what Honda does!
