The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into the 2012 Hyundai Elantra following a report of a driver injured by an airbag after a crash.
So far, the federal agency has received one complaint involving the car’s side curtain airbag. The driver suffered lacerations to the face and ear after the airbag deployed, and pictures of the crashed Elantra show a metal piece poking out from the left edge of the headliner above the driver’s seat. The investigation opened last week and covers about 123,000 2012 model year Elantras.
A complaint dated April 7, 2012 about a 2012 Hyundai Elantra reads: “DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG DELPOYED AND METAL BRACKET DEPLOYED WITH AIR BAG FROM HEADLINER AREA ALSO AND SLICED MY EAR IN HALF… COULD HAVE BEEN NECK… I HAVE PICTURES OF THE WRECKAGE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE…
“The evaluation is in the very early stages; neither Hyundai nor NHTSA have had an opportunity to inspect the 2012 Elantra that is the subject of this evaluation,” Hyundai spokesman Jim Trainor told us. He also added there are no other reports of injury from side curtain airbags in the 2012 Elantra.
The 2013 Hyundai Elantra received an overall five-star rating in NHTSA crash tests and is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick.

This is going to get interesting, I wonder how much money that driver is going to sue Hyundai for. Hope he has good lawyers cause payout will be large!
well since last week when i saw the video and original post, Investigation was suppose to reveal exactly what happened. but no word from Hyundai yet, theyre probably watching closely at the case. This incident could effect their path towards the safety factor.
Needs pictures of the guys face and ear. That way I can judge whether he has a legit case or is just a sue happy baby.

Never know when it comes to the States.

In the states they sue for anything, I agree we need to see some evidence and more information on this case, im surprised nothing else has been released by now. We've seen the original report, it's about time to see some detailed info.
Wow! Where did the metal braket come from. I would like to see some pics of both the bracket and the guy's ear.
