I'm worried about my Elantra random trunk popping behavior leading to nitrous addiction

2010 Elantra is misbehaving at an elderly age like a toddler. She likes to pop her trunk herself. I think she does it just for attention because I got a Honda CR-V and don't driver her much anymore. I thought I was just hitting the trunk button when I'd grab the key fob out of my pocket. As I'd always walk up to my car and have to close the trunk. Tonight I ruled this out and confirmed my car is acting out. I have both my cars in the garage for the first time. I parked the Elantra and had to close the trunk before I left the house. I just pulled in.....and the first thing I noticed as the garage door opened was the trunk popped open while I was gone and the key fob was in the bowl inside.

This attention seeking behavior is unacceptable and I'd like to figure out how to make it stop. My Elantra needs to be more independent and be okay with being alone now that she's old and I have another car that needs my attention every day. I'm worried this trunk popping problem will lead to some sort of depression.

I have to find the underlying cause of her trunk popping behavior It could lead to things like addiction. Nitrous is a big problem these days In the streets.

Only in/near your garage & when you open or close the garage door? If so try changing your garage door frequency. Otherwise consider disconnecting the trunk remote release and using the manual function.
It opens itself anywhere. I'll walk out the grocery store and it'll be popped. Sometimes I don't notice it happen for a bit. Sometimes it happens more often.

My 21 Elantra limited has been doing this off an on for the past year. Once driving through a car wash. In parking lots, in the garage even while driving.
I take it to the dealer and they can never get it to randomly open and can't find anything wrong.

I finally had to pull the fuse for the electric trunk.

Last time I put the fuse back in it didn't randomly open for months. But eventually it started again.

Everything else about my Elantra has been awesome though.

wow. I also noticed that it won't happen for a while after I had to jump start a dead battery while my alternator was bad and not charging it. I have zero problem just using the manual key hole to open it. Goes to show just how many stupid tech problems can be fixed by simply unplugging it, and plugging it back in.

I am no car guy by any means. I can learn to fix stuff and loved trouble shooting and diagnosing as a kid before life happened.

I'm wondering if I can't find all the models that do this. If every year elantra has people saying this happens that wouldn't be a much fun as finding only these two Elantra from these years do this and comparing the components to widdle it down to what malfunctions intermittently.

As I was a repair tech (not professionally but I was certified in some things) I'd find bad capacitors on motherboards that almost on time every x amount of days of run time would start to malfunction. So many stupid little issues caused by it.

Intermittent problems... Always assume it's a electrical problem I learned.

My wife has a 2014 Elantra that does this. I pulled the fuse a few years ago. Have not tried putting it back in.

The silicone key fob cover trick seems to have stopped my 2020 Elantra Limited's trunk from opening on it's own. Since putting the cover on my key fob, trunk is staying shut. I got the two pack on amazon around $10.00 for two. just copy and paste the below into the amazon search bar. Worked for me but your mileage may vary.
REPROTECTING Silicone Rubber Key Fob Cover Compatible with 2016-2021 Hyundai Elantra, Elantra, GT Ioniq, Sonata

Just a figure of speech in that it may or may not work for you/others.
