Hyundai to unveil zombie-fighting Elantra Coupe at Comic-Con

For those looking to survive Z-day with a little style, Hyundai has introduced the new Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine. Not just your ordinary Elantra Coupe, Hyundai’s zombie-fighting machine is ready to take on throngs of the undead thanks to features like a front-end custom zombie plow cow catcher with spikes, slatted armored window coverings and a roof hatch to allow passengers to shoot at walkers.

Unfortunately for fans of the comic The Walking Dead, the Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine won’t be arriving in Hyundai showrooms, but the walker-slaying coupe will be on display at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego. Part of the Hyundai Undead program, the Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine will be on hand to celebrate the 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic.

Designed by The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and fabricated by Design Craft, the Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine is intended to get Hyundai’s foot in the door with Gen Y crowd. The Walking Dead franchise, which has spawned a TV show and video game, is extremely popular with Gen Y, which is Hyundai’s target demographic for its new Elantra Coupe and GT models.

“The Hyundai Undead program allows us to interact with hundreds of thousands of film, comic, TV and video game fans during this summer’s ultimate pop culture event,” said Steve Shannon, vice president of Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “We can’t wait to unveil our custom Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine, the ultimate car for The Walking Dead fans and anyone who wants to survive a zombie apocalypse.”

In addition the unveiling of the Elantra Coupe Zombie Survival Machine at Comic-Con, Hyundai will also be giving away a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT wrapped in the cover of the 100th issue of the comic featuring artwork by Charlie Adlard, longtime artist for The Walking Dead.

For those interested in the regular versions of the Elantra Coupe and GT, both models should begin arriving on dealer lots by the end of the month.
