Any aftermarket yet for oil filters in the newest gen?

I have a 2023 Elantra with the 2.0l. has anyone found aftermarket oil filters yet? Not only am I tired of paying literally 34$ for the dealer filter but they are a 7hour round trip drive from where I live.

The Atkinson 2.0 liter engine has been around for almost four years, so I would imagine any good auto parts store would have one. I would do some research on any off brands. For decades Fram had poor quality parts to the point it was nicknamed the Orange Box of Death.

A Kia dealership will have the exact same OEM part as it shares the same engine. $34 sounds awfully high, a little shopping would be good.

Can you order online and have a filter shipped to you?

So I did try asking around. For reference I'm in Canada so 34$ is probably 25-30% markup just due to differences from USD. It's still an insane price though....

I searched around (AutoZone, Canadian tire, napa, and auto parts plus). Every one of them didn't even list an option for this car. When I went to the dealer they needed my vin because they said my engine could use any one of 3 different cartridge filters and at the time even their computer didn't know. I bought 3 and found the one that fit. It's filter kit "26350 2j000" btw. Craziness.

It seems to me almost like Hyundai is putting mud in the water on purpose making it hard to find parts other than paying the dealer price. I don't mean it in some grand conspiracy, but more of their business model is selling stuff to us all.
The current generation Kia Forte (model BD, 2019-2023) is a popular car in Canada and shares the same 2.0 Atkinson cycle engine as the Elantra. That filter should fit (but check, of course).

Curious why no substantial aftermarket support on the Hyundai. Perhaps not enough sales volume to justify the expenditure.

If I were an aftermarket supplier and the manufacturer was selling filters for $34 I would certainly be offering a $24 alternative.

Agreed! I feel like there's a missed opportunity. I have no idea on the stats here but in Ontario I see an endless stream of new gen (2020+) Elantras on all the roads but only just saw a new forte for the first time 3 days ago. So there should be a market in my experience.

I'll have a look around and see if I say the word kia if suddenly more options pop up. Love this little car as the highway driver though. There's 1 or 2 computer glitches the dealer can't resolve but she holds a steady 56mpg and compared to my 400hp Ram pickup this car pays for itself just on saving me fuel on roadtrips. Gas is still 6$ a gallon here btw.
Not sure if you use or trust Amazon or eBay but they show a lot under the part number you listed for much less.
Huge disclaimer: I don't know how either of them operate when it comes to shipping to Canada so it may negate the savings.

Good to know. Thanks Scott I'll have a look for sure. I did a cursory scan a year ago when first running into this and didn't find anything but maybe it's changed finally.
