Does anyone know where I can purchase an aftermarket shift knob for my Elantra coupe 6 speed? Apparently the OEM shifter has a collar that you have to pull up in order to shift into reverse...and I can't find any website that carries that kind of shift knob.

I could get a replacement through Hyundai, but the leather is just cheap crap as it starts to peel after only a few months .... this also happened to my leather wrapped steering wheel too. It is such a shame as I have had many cars with leather wheels and shifters and NEVER had an issue like this.

Save yourself the $$ and just keep having the warranty replace it. Never had a leather steering wheel or shifter "peel" before... I've dug little spots into them from fingernails, rings, etc. But nothing that showed a defect in the product. Only had our GT for 4 days, but the leather on the wheel seems about the same as many others Ive had.

Not sure about this collar you're talking about... most 6-spds you have to push down the shift lever to enter into reverse. But the shift knob doesn't affect that function. Can you explain the function better? Do you actually have to pull/press something in order to enter reverse?

I looked up what you are talking about... haven't seen any aftermarket shift knobs that cater to buttons/mechanical functions. I'd say you're stuck with OE

Actually the collar is not part of the shift knob, but there is a cutout on the shift knob so you can pull up on the collar in order to shift into reverse. I am assuming your GT is automatic so you wouldn't have this collar. Here is an example of the knob although it is for a accent. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hyundai-ACCENT-Solaris-Leather-Gear-Shift-Knob-6Speed-Manual-2011-2012-2013-/120943845936
Yeah, the wife didn't want a manual transmission with a baby on the way. But the shifttronic makes it a little more livable for me when I drive it.

I haven't come across that style before, previous cars I have had with a 6spd were the push down style for reverse. If I see anything I'll let you know though.

If the collar is not part of the shift knob any aftermarket shift knob will work.

You just need to find out what thread pitch the Elantra takes.

Actually Hyundai replaced my shift knob ... although there are no aftermarket replacements as shift knob is cut like and upside down L to accommodate the reverse collar.
