I have a 2008 Elantra and the switch for the windshield defrost quit working. It started making a noise when I would switch from the head to the feet or to the defrost and then it just stays on the head now and only that. I turn the dial to the other areas and it just stays on the head. Anyone know of a way to fix this? My brother is a parts manager at a Ford dealer and is pretty sure it is a faulty climate control switch which is a dealer only item that goes for 629.00. I live in Canada so it would be nice to have the heat on the windshield as well. Thank you.

He is making a wild guess which might not be right.

Could be a loose wire.
Could be a mechanical fault with one of the air deflector vanes.
Could be debris stuck in the vane.

Not much the average owner can do though as part of the dashboard usually has to come loose to access the area of possible problems.
On some models, you can get to it via removing the glove box.

I think a dealer visit is probably required.
