jwilli27 You can always change out tires and rims on a car, but in order to go to larger ratio tires, you will need to look at smaller rims. If you go to thicker tires to try to get more distance between the rim and the road surface, then you are going to cause other issues in the car. Nothing is wrong with going to smaller wheels with larger ratio tires...provided you keep to the same overall size of the tire+wheel diameter.

Just something to keep in mind, I was told that the Tire companies are phasing out the 15in rims and tires. You may have to go with the 16in rims, but that will give you the option of 215/55 R16. It will give a little more of a safety net on that concern, and doesn't compromise the safety of the rest of the suspension components around it. It also shouldn't impact the ride quality or the way it handles...and may improve some of the ride quality, depending on the tire quality.

Hope that helps, and your daughter can stop killing tires.

larger tires than stock 215/45-17

Help, my daughters 2016 Elantra Sport keeps popping tires. {OK she is not the best driver, but she never popped a tire before she got THIS car}

I always beg my children {seven of them} to NOT buy any vehicle that is the FIRST car in a new generation, or a new model, or any car with SPORT, attached to it, but my two daughters got together and agreed that THIS car was what she HAD to have. LOL

She drives it to deliver food with a company called "bite squad" here in Greenville, SC. We have BAD roads and she is always driving down driveways she has never been in before and pulling into places whith narrow openings {people order food about the same time that other people drive to restaurants to eat, so streets and parking lots are always full.

Anyway, I have searched Google and this forum and no one has specifically stated WHAT larger {ratio} tires will fit under a 2016 Elantra. SOMEONE must have put larger {ratio- 50/55??} tires under there.

Anyway, thanks for any info you might have. IF, you think I should NOT put different tires FOR WHATEVER reason, PLEASE keep it to yourself. I KNOW that these tires will KILL my daughter and that when this inevitably happens I will/should be charged with vehicular homicide, or worse. I KNOW. LOL
