Catastrophic Oil Loss
I have a 2008 GLS with a serious problem. On the way to work, the oil light began to flicker. By the time I noticed it and was able to pull over and check it out, I had lost a great deal of oil. It blew out all over the right side of the engine. The upper radiator hose also ruptured.
I suspected it was the valve cover gasket, but it was not. The oil covers almost up to the valve cover, but not quite that high. And now I’m stumped. I’m assuming the loss of oil caused the engine to overheat and, in turn, caused the radiator hose to burst. That I can fix rather easily. But I’m having trouble determining where the oil loss occurred. Would a failure of the oil pan gasket cause oil to cover the entire right side of the engine? Is there anything else on that side of the engine that could fail and cause this?
