2017 Elantra demolishing rims and tires

We have a 2017 with about 36,000 kms in Atlantic Canada. Our roads aren't great, but the Elantra seems to bend a rim on even fairly mild pothole hits. I've been driving 16 years and never lost a rim or tire to a pothole.

We've had this car 2 years, we've lost 2 rims, had to straighten 4 more, and as of today, lost 3 tires. It's been winter rims every time, so I'm also looking at those, but I'm curious if anyone else is having similar issues with their Elantra.

WOW! That is pretty crazy. I live in rural Texas, where I have seen potholes swallow full-size pickups...but have never bent a rim here. My 2017 is still sporting the same wheels that came with it, though I have put new tires on it twice now due to miles. My son bent 2 rims on his old Accord with super-low-profile tires, but mine are factory. It might help to know which rims you are sporting, but mine were part of the Appearance Package, so upgraded some.
