Unhappy 2014 Elantra Limited sedan need trailer wiring

Hi! I already have a trailer hitch on my Elantra so I can carry my bikes; however, we also would like to pull a light kayak trailer with 2 kayaks on it. The trailer is aluminum, weighs 200lb...... but now we've hit a snag. It appears that the trailer wiring that has worked for other years of this same model, for whatever reason, are not working. The Curt C56126 is not working - it leaves us with only the lights in the trunk area as the working tail-lights. This is no acceptable:/

We've taken the car to a mechanic to have this done and he thought the first kit was defective. Please can anyone help? I'm at my wits end

Garage
Per the owners manual we're not allowed to tow anything with the Elantra except in Canada. although with the weight you've given, I don't see it being an issue. This may explain your wiring issue.

LED's

Your LED tail lights may not supply the controller with enough power to sense that the light is on.

You may need to purchse a trailer light converter designed to work with LED tail lights. I found this on Amazon:
