2015 Elantra GL - Tailpipe Smoke

Engine is a 1.8 L and mileage is 59,000 km, vehicle is regularly maintained every 5,000 km or 3 months.

The other day while driving at 80 km/h, I floored it to safely get thru a yellow traffic light.
Looked in the rear view and saw a huge cloud of smoke, with a little residual coming out the pipe for a few seconds.

What would cause this enormous cloud of smoke?

What color was it? White, slightly blue or black/brown? It could be a number of things. Unburned fuel, condensation, burning oil, bad head gasket... The color is the key. Thick white smoke is typically coolant (bad head gasket), black smoke is excess fuel, and blueish is burning oil. If it was mostly clear, there was just water built up in the exhaust. Hope that helps.
