2012 Hyundai Elantra Pushbutton Start occasionally clicks, but doesn't turn over
This is an odd issue that I'm hoping somebody has gone through already because intermittent faults are such a pain to diagnose.
Let me start by saying that the vast majority (90%+) of the time I get into my car, put my foot on the brake and press the start button the car fires up immediately and with no issue. But sometimes, one of two other things happen
When I get in my car, put my foot on the brake and press the start button I can hear a click from the engine (starter engaging I believe) but nothing else happens. After ~15 seconds the electronics of the car come to life (radio on, dash lights etc) like the starting controller has given up on a start.
When I get in my car, put my foot on the brake and press the start button I can hear a click from the engine (starter engaging I believe) but a few seconds later the starter spins up and the car fires up right away
Iím a little lost where to start. The original battery was replaced over the summer (at ~100,000 miles), so it's less than 8 months old. I also checked all the battery terminations and they are secure and clean.
I'm hesitant to just replace the starter, as its an expensive part to replace without any diagnostics.
Advice is appreciated
