I'm brand new to the forum and need your help. My 2009 Elantra SE (automatic) with about 106,000 miles has developed a howling/chattering noise that gets louder and higher in pitch as the speed increases. Shifting into neutral at speed has no effect on the noise, so I'm assuming the problem is not with the power train or accessories. My mechanic was positive the problem was with the front wheel bearings. I agreed to have her replace them but it had no effect whatsoever. I am stumped (as is my mechanic) where the problem may lie (if it's pertinent, the car rides on Cooper CS4 Touring tires with plenty of tread left). I love this car because of its smooth and quiet ride, but that is no longer the case. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
