2007 Elantra: Airbag Light and Seatbelt Chime

I recently picked up an Elantra as a cheap commuter car while I finish up school but the seatbelt chime has been driving me crazy. I always buckle up, even if I'm just going to the end of the driveway but the chime keeps making noise every minute or so.

The airbag light also is consistently on and i've read that the two problems could be related. I would prefer to have everything fixed, but if there is a way to stop the chime I wouldn't mind that as long as I can drive in peace.

Hello, not sure if this helps or not but I have a 13 Elantra that I just got out of the shop to have the seat rails replaced as they were the culprit of the airbag light staying on all the time. The ringing warning may need the belt buckle to be replaced (the female side). Hope it helps and good luck.

Please post the remedy when you come across it.

If the 07 is similar to my 01, then there is a connector under seat that may not be having proper contact. I notice it happen when my wife drives it as she has to move seat forward. When I move seat back, seat belt light sometimes will stay lit. I can move seat back and forth maybe a couple of times and light will go out. I do not have a chime for that, just light. I am planning on removing seat, figure out which connector does this, I think mine has 2, and repair for good. Sometimes I can reach under seat with engine running and move wires a little and light will go out.

There was a recall on this one several years ago and supposedly taken care of. I purchased it in 2012.
