Popping Noise

When i drive my car or have it parked for a short amount of time, a loud popping noise comes from the car, can't tell where from. It is so sporadic and happens at such odd times that to take it into the dealership might be futile, unless they have heard of this before. It is loud enough that I can hear it inside the car and it sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the car. Sometimes it is running while parked and makes the noise or if the car is turned off, I will go about 20 feet and sit and it will make the noise. Usually it is right after it has been driven, not sat for a long time. It made me wonder if taking heavy objects in and out of the trunk could be causing the noise. When I put a heavy object in the car is it causing the flooring to bend, then when I take out the heavy objects the flooring is coming back into place? This seems almost unlikely because I have been putting the same heavy items in and out of the trunk since I had the car. Also, it seems that the noise started after I got new tires. I don't remember it happening before then. I had to get all season tires to replace original ones to drive in the snow.

First off, what car do you have? Also, if you could get a video of the noise that would help a great deal. a popping noise could literally be coming from anywhere and caused by anything. actually hearing the noise will help narrow it down and if all els fails, it will let the dealer know what to listen for.

Given your description, it is HIGHLY likely that this is just the exhaust manifold, exhaust pipes or the catalytic converter cooling off and "popping" due to the metal expanding and contracting.

On some cars, it gradually goes away as the car ages but on some it continues to do it seemingly forever.

This is correct. A lot of my cars have done this from big luxurious cars to small 4 cylinder commuter cars, it's typical.

I am have the same issue with my 2013 Elantra. Dealer replaced the muffler last fall & is now saying that they need to replace the muffler again,
Mechanic said the popping sounds like a dent in a gas can popping back out
I'm sure this must be happening to others.

I am having the same issue. dealer replaced the muffler last fall & now says it needs replaced again. Mechanic test drove car to heat up, put on hoist & after about 5 minutes the muffler popped. They described it as the sound of a dent popping back out of a gas can.

there has to be more people this issue, looking for answers

Did u add something to it? Bad installation of new parts can also cause noises.
