On various cars, I've used Blizzaks over the last 12 years or so and they are my number one choice for winter tires. As for second place choices ...there are lots of good ones, but I believe that nothing beats a Blizzak. I've used them in the more moderate conditions in the Anchorage, Alaska area as well as in deep sub-zero arctic weather north of Fairbanks, Alaska... they work great either way.

I've used Goodyear UltraGrip Ice tires (4 cars) with great success. Now they're discontinued and the WRTs have replaced them. They seem to have a strong following. The WRTs are on my radar for snow tires.

I can also vouch for Blizzaks, they are the best bang for your buck winter tire, make sure to check the classifieds before buying them new, you might just happen to find a used set in great condition for a great price.

NO you cannot. You want to keep the last two numbers 55/16 and you want to keep the first number wither 195 or 205

The first set of numbers is Width. 2nd is Aspect Ratio (% of Width). 3rd is Rim Size.

195/55/15 is 1 cm narrower. And Slightly smaller Sidewall height.

The problem I see is, The TPMS. Unless your reusing the factory rims, You need the sensors and have the car programmed. Then do the same(Reprogram) when you change to "Summer" tires.

On a Side note, The Stock Tires 205/55/16 Suck in snow. The Hankooks on the Malibu (Factory) were better. 205/45/17 (If I remember correctly)

I'm guessing the sensor reprogramming isn't something I can do at home??? Downsides (besides the obvious) of ignoring the reprogramming?
