Hyundai Beijing Plant Begins Production 17 Days After Fire

Hyundai begins production at its Beijing plant after production was halted 17 days due to a fire which took place on May 10th.

The company declared that the plant was completely restored by Saturday, May 27th, and manufactured 1,200 vehicles that day. The plant produces 350,000 units annually, taking up half of the company’s production in China. At the moment of the fire the company officials thought that the facility will be out of function for at least one month. Fortunately, it took only 17 days to restore the plant, minimizing disruption by operating some facilities of a new plant due to be finished in June. The vehicle frames produced at the affected plant were sent to the new one 20 km away, to be painted and then sent back to finish the assembly.
The fire started on May 10th, and it took hours to bring it under control, as it was spreading quickly due to the amount of flammable material. Until the fire the plant manufactured 1,300 vehicles daily for China, including the Sonata and the Accent. Hyundai expected to lose about 30,000 units of production.

Hyundai definitely pick the right country to manufacture their vehicles. I remember when the US first started to have so many things made there, and you would look at everything and at the bottom was always stamped "Made in China" The labour was quite cheap in the 90s. but now with China's economy on the rise i dont think the cost of labour will be up as well.
