Storm, tight supply cut Hyundai October sales
9:45AM EDT November 1. 2012 - Hyundai's October sales were down 4% from the month a year ago, CEO John Krafcik said in his monthly sales Tweet this morning.
Krafcik blamed the effects of Hurricane Sandy at the end of the month (when dealers typically pump up the volume) and tight supplies of the South Korean-built Accent subcompact and sporty Veloster.
He said those factors offset sales growth for the redesigned Santa Fe crrossover (up 16% from a year ago) and the expanded Elantra line (up 12%) that now includes a coupe and the GT hatchback (above) as well as a sedan.
More details to come with the company's full sales release later today.
