Hyundai is recalling 186,254 model year 2011 through 2013 Elantras because of a support bracket that could become displaced and cause a laceration to vehicle occupants. Last year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a defect investigation that has since become a recall.
One of the people who filed a complaint with NHTSA said the bracket, “Sliced my ear in half,” and that it “could have been [my] neck.”
Hyundai will fix the problem free of charge by applying adhesive strips to the headliner. According to NHTSA, the remedy is expected to be available in May.
